Emergency Medicine Primer for Family Physicians

The Ontario College of Family Physicians is pleased to announce the offering of An Emergency Medicine Primer for Family Physicians in collaboration with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and Aim Health Group.

Family physicians play an important role within the Ontario health care system and their re-integration into emergency departments is a valuable component of the health human resources strategy.   

This 2 day course is being offered as an update for those family physicians who are currently working in an emergency department (3 - 4 shifts per month) and as a refresher course to family physicians who have worked (minimum 2 years) in emergency departments previously.


What is being offered?

  • 2 day course combining theory and practical sessions
  • 16 topics on all major systems in adults and pediatrics   
  • Practical workshops in airway practice, casting, splinting, slit lamp use, x-ray for fractures, x-ray for non-fractures, lumbar puncture and EKG interpretation
  • Course is being provided free of charge

This program meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for 13.0 Mainpro-C credits

The Ontario College of Family Physicians is please to announce the Emergency Medicine Primer for Family Physicians II in collaboration with Aim Health Group.

This 1 day course is being offered to family physicians who have taken the Emergency Medicine Primer for Family Physicians I; however, those who have not participated in this course are welcome to apply.  This program will provide a refresher course for those who have worked in emergency departments previously (at least for 2 past years, excluding residency) and an update for those who are currently working in an emergency department.
