Dr. Seamus Donaghy graduated from Ireland in 1977. He completed residency in family medicine at McMaster in 1981 and commenced family medical practice in the small town of Grimsby, Ontario. In 1990-91 he undertook FP anaesthesia training at McMaster and returned to Grimsby where he has continued comprehensive care that includes office practice, ER, OB and anaesthesia. Teaching medical students was a sporadic effort in the first 2 decades of practice. This has become an increasing element of his practice in the past several years as he entertains all levels of students and residents from first year medical students to full time family medicine residents. He strikes an excellent balance between teaching and allowing a learner room to grow and learn on their own. Dr. Donaghy does not just teach his learners, he truly mentors them. He practices alongside spouse Mary in their group practice. It is hoped that ongoing involvement with learners will be an increasing element of his practice in the next ten years until retirement. He takes particular delight in introducing students/residents to the vast variety of work that rural Family Practice entails. Dr.Donaghy is truly the definition of a community family physician and has mentored many medical learners. His evidence-based, gentle approach to medical practice andteaching makes him a role model as a physician and as a teacher.
